Elinor's Excellent Sock Design Contest
Through the Loops! — ... Since the end of Socktoberfest the only socks I've knit have been the uninspired, stockinette sort. With socks of this kind second sock syndrome takes its toll. Things have gotten so extreme that I've resorted to wearing mismatched pairs. Luckily Elinor, designer extraordinaire, of Exercise Before Knitting fame has concocted a solution to this sock ennui.   ...

it’s been awhile.
whit::knits — ... Next up: Thinking about Socks! I’ve kind of fallen off the sock-knitting wagon in favor of my beloved sweaters, but Elinor has a brilliant idea that just might kick me into gear on the sock-knitting front. I’ve had an idea for a geeky sock design sitting around in my head for several years now, and I think I might actually try to make it happen. Here’s a little hint of where my brain’s at (::snicker::)… ...

Random Refinements
stash, knit, repeat — ... totally distracted me with a little contest : [image] I love this contest both because I’m sorely in need of some sock reviving (my last pair was Devon, and who knows what I knit before that but it was a long time ago because most of my socks have holes and are waiting to be darned), and because her post set some wheels turning. The Woolen Rabbit helped out with the idea that floated to the top of the pile, too: [image] (Harmony sock yarn, “Oh Ruby!”. It’s as gorgeous as it seems.) Of course, a random conversation on a very unpleasant day at work got me thinking about ...

novamade — ... (with narration and everything!) that you are welcome to zip through. When I packed my bags for the trip, I was pretty sure there would be time for knitting.  I wasn't sure what to take at first, but because of Elinor's new sock contest (are you playing?!) I have a renewed interest in sock knitting, and I just happened to have two mateless socks (they have been mateless for years...seriously, I forgot they were there, that's how old they are).  I took two socks and thought I'd get them done. ...

Products have a Process
Knitting to Stay Sane — ... For a few weeks in particular the back of my brain has been working away trying to figure out one specific challenge, trying to come up with a sock to enter into Elinor’s awesome sock contest . (I should say at this point that Elinor has me completely and totally marked, telling me about the contest with an extra comment about “oh I WAS going to ask you to judge but then you would have been able to ENTER it, lalalalalaaa ::eyelashbatting::” and at that point I had no choice but to put my brain on it.) This is what my knitting brain has been mulling over for weeks, and this ...

whit::knits — ... While I was on the train, I sketched out the pattern for the Neuron Socks, which are coming along quite nicely (after a few rounds of ripping and reknitting, of course, but that’s how it always goes when you’re making up patterns rather than following them!). I am so absurdly excited about this pattern, you guys! I seriously cannot wait to share it with y’all. My only worry is that I won’t find the time to knit both pairs in time for Elinor’s contest. I’m just so busy! But it’s my first crafty priority at the moment, so here’s ...

Yarn Tourism
Knitting to Stay Sane — ... . Still friendly, still an enjoyable sock yarn selection – a skein of Dream in Color Starry MAY have come home with me. But speaking of the Madelinetosh tosh sock, I will give you a little snap of my finished sock for the Socks Revived contest (whose deadline, incidentally, has been extended into May), which I finished while at Knit Happens. I’ll be sure to tell you more about these in my next post, if you haven’t already seen them up on Ravelry. ...

New Sock Pattern, and Cabling Without A Cable Needle
Knitting to Stay Sane — Today I’m happy to unveil my latest sock pattern, which is also my entry for the Socks Revived contest. (I’d been delaying a bit hoping to get some super snazzy photos – but it turns out that travelling around and being trapped under piles of grading does not lend itself to super snazzy photo session time, so I hope these will do!) Happily, I present the Revival socks – available here in my Ravelry store and, for a limited time, ...

whit::knits — ... is basically written, except for some math that I’m putting off for a bit later. I’m writing it for 3 sizes, with the possibility of mixing sizes (if, say, your calf is a small but your foot is a medium, or something like that). So now I’ve just got to finish off this sock, and then knit the second, so that I can have a little photoshoot before I put the final touches on the pattern. Who knows, maybe I’ll actually get it all done in time for Elinor’s contest (with the new deadline of May 21st). ...
